Bzzzzt. Hello? Hello? Testing?
Hello, hello, to anyone still out there. :P For a number of reasons (busy? stressed? BUSY) I haven't really had time to blog in awhile. HOWEVER...I might try harder in the new year? I do miss it, I just never seem to have the time. Um. MAYBE SOON?

In the meantime, here's a short little hello and random update about my life in case anyone caaaaarrrrrreeeessss:

- Christmas was fantastic; celebrating with the family is always good, and was extra-fun this year with my sister and BiL's 2.5 year old boy and 6 month old girl. Kids. Presents. SO CUTE. :D My sis reports that Nephew loves the turtle nightlight I got him (it shows constellations on the ceiling, in 3 colors that you can select) and Baby Niece loves the snuggly seahorse (it plays lullabies and its tummy lights up, aw) as well. Yay! I got some very cool things, like an iPod speaker and a Kindle and (HAHAHAHAAAA!) a Deadpool bank. Heeee. Did you all get anything fun?

- The location for the next North American Discworld Convention has been announced. It will be in 2013 in Baltimore. Woo! Local! Although I have "retired" from being involved in planning, I am looking forward to attending!! WHO ELSE IS GOING TO GO?

- I seem to have been seeing a number of movies recently. I got to go to the advance screening of Sherlock Holmes in December (it was SUPER); I was fairly unimpressed with Immortals (although the cinematography was pretty good, it just draaaaagged); and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was intense, good, and DISTURBING. I had 3 nightmares in a row the night after I saw it (!!). ...Anyone else see anything good recently?

- Ummmm...yeah, that may be all for now. Maybe I haven't blogged recently because I'm BORING. Heh.

But I still love y'all. Happy New Year!!

There you are!

Bah why do all the cons have to be on the coasts!! :P

Which coast is Madison on?

Hello!

Well, the first two were in Arizona and Wisconsin, actually. :)

YAY KINDLE! Are you following the Goodreads author craziness? O_o

Noooo? Enlighten me? :)
particle_person From: particle_person Date: January 10th, 2012 05:52 am (UTC) (current file)
OH GOD YOU HAVE NO IDEA. THE AUTHORS WENT NUTS. Not the fans. AUTHORS. And it's not just one author. THEY ALL WENT CRAZY AT THE SAME TIME, TROLLING FANS AND MANIPULATING AMAZON AND SHIT.

The first five wanks are here:
http://cuddlebuggery.blogspot.com/2012/01/first-five-days-on-goodreads.html?m=1

Then more here:
http://cuddlebuggery.blogspot.com.au/2012/01/wank-fest-continues.html

All of those have pages of reading that should keep you occupied for the next hundred years or so.
particle_person From: particle_person Date: January 10th, 2012 05:55 am (UTC) (current file)
And it's not like it's one big wank, either. They are also apparently separate wanks that are unrelated to each other. Nobody has any idea why this all hit at once.

I have finally caught up on much of it, and all I can say is: DUUUUUDE. O_o

HELLO! :D

It seems a lot of people are moving to DW, but I'm still here (and most likely always will be). :)

I'm waiting for the Muppets movie to come out (just a few more weeks! Squee!); there's not really any other movie I want to see just now. But I *did* go and see Arthur Christmas (after Xmas; I was too busy BEFORE the holiday!), and it was excellent! :D I thoroughly recommend it!

I seem to still find things to blog about, even though I also think my life is fairly boring. The joys of being a writer and struggling to find things to write prose about means I use my LJ as a kind of thinking tool... :)
(Oh, and if you have any random ideas for topics I could write about... please let me know? I have trouble coming up with concepts/ideas for plots, but when I have a basic theme or subject to write about, it just seems easier...)

Do you have any idea if there's going to be an ADWCON (Australian...) any time soon? 'Cause that would be SO COOL! (Even better... an AADWCON - Adelaide - Australia....) :D

My News: I 'won' NaNoWriMo, but the story's crap and will need a shit-ton of editing; I held a successful Midsummer Tea Party (complete with cupcakes) - Mmm, tea!; I'm partially nocturnal again (damnit); and I passed (idk HOW, but I *did* pass) The Course From Hell (TESOL) - so now I am qualified to teach English or English as a Second Language to adults - and I will graduate in April. Still can't believe I passed. Can't stand teaching any more, tho'!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EMILY!!! :D

I ain't movin' either. :)

I wondered about Arthur Christmas. Hmm. :)

There's an Aussie Con every other year: http://ausdwcon.org/ Woo!

Oh, man, I am so bad about being nocturnal, too. Trying to do better! Heh.

Congrats on your teaching qualification!

Merry Christmas and happy new year!

Nephew loves the turtle nightlight I got him (it shows constellations on the ceiling, in 3 colors that you can select)

We got our little boy one of these a while back, and the one you got must be the same one or an updated model - ours does blue, green and both. His big things are trains and turtles at the moment, so this has been hauled out of mothballs for a second go.

As for films, the last thing I saw at the cinema was Deathly Hallows Part 2 and loved it (have perforce seen more Cars, Toy Story and other animated films than I want to think about!). At the moment am down on my knees begging Ridley Scott to just hurry up and release Prometheus already. If I'm right, it could reboot the Alien franchise in some very interesting directions.
foresthouse From: foresthouse Date: January 10th, 2012 05:50 am (UTC) (current file)
Aww. :) Yes, his turtle has blue, green, and amber lights that you can select.

I...am ashamed to admit that I have only seen pieces of the first Alien movie. *hides*
pathology_doc From: pathology_doc Date: January 10th, 2012 01:20 pm (UTC) (current file)
Which pieces, I wonder? That classic scene where John Hurt meets his end?

And - amber lights? Must be the updated version.
foresthouse From: foresthouse Date: January 23rd, 2012 07:01 pm (UTC) (current file)
Yeeeeees that scene, heh.

Yeah, they may have put out a new one. Apparently now it is part of the Permanent Bedtime Ritual. Awww. :)
pathology_doc From: pathology_doc Date: January 24th, 2012 12:23 am (UTC) (current file)
It's our morning ritual too. Because of the somewhat short days right now, Master Two wakes in darkness, so Turtle is good until at least 7:15am.

Hello! I am also recently back on LJ.

When is the Discworld con? It always looks like such fun, I might have to look into going!
foresthouse From: foresthouse Date: January 10th, 2012 05:51 am (UTC) (current file)
Hello!

OMG, come!!! :D It's 2013, but no date has been announced yet. I assume mid-to-late summer or early fall.
dachelle From: dachelle Date: January 10th, 2012 05:01 pm (UTC) (current file)
If it's in the summer I can probably do it. I'll keep you updated!

Also got a kindle for christmas and having a lot of fun playing with it. Other news we're decluttering the condo and taking a break from cons and stuff.

Movie wise mostly watch Syfy disaster movie of the week, but did see A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas, it was very funny and so worth the extra for 3D.

I just got my Kindle cover a couple of days ago so now I am taking it all around with me.

...I keep trying to take a break from cons and then THINGS HAPPEN AND I GO PLACES. Hee.

Is it strange that one of my favorite Christmas presents is a laundry bag? It is a particularly special laundry bag, it was handmade for me by my future mother-in-law, and based on a design she made for my fiancé when he went off to college. His has lasted him through college, graduate school, and a postdoc and just now needed a patch. It is made of denim and has the most useful drawstrings I've ever seen on a laundry bag. Yep, I must be an adult. Then again, my reaction to receiving it was to hug it, so I'm not sure what that says about me as an adult.

I also got a number of books, including some non-Discworld Pratchett that I hadn't read yet. I got The Colour of Magic on DVD. I got two USB drives, one shaped like a cute panda. A few other things too, but those are the ones most worth mentioning.

I currently own two Kindles, one original model, and one Kindle DX. I am very fond of them, and speak to people about the benefits of e-ink all the time.

- The location for the next North American Discworld Convention has been announced. It will be in 2013 in Baltimore. Woo! Local! Although I have "retired" from being involved in planning, I am looking forward to attending!! WHO ELSE IS GOING TO GO?

ME ME ME, and my fiancé! We're thinking of arriving a few days early to enjoy celebrating the 4th in the Baltimore/DC area. My fiancé has never been to either place. I've spent weeks at Johns Hopkins University for their Center for Talented Youth (they took us on a trip to the Inner Harbor and let a bunch of 7th to 10th graders loose there), and have taken short trips to DC a couple of times. I do fear the heat and humidity a bit, but I'm sure we'll deal with it and a good time will be had by all. Hopefully we'll get to hang out with you a bit more since you won't be running things this time. Perhaps we could even hang out before the Con, depending on how schedules work out?

-Anyone else see anything good recently?
I quite enjoyed J. Edgar, though critics panned it. Then again, I am an American History nerd, so I tend to like films about significant historical figures. I thought it was very well written and well acted. The critics were unimpressed by things that didn't really matter to the story, like make-up and special effects. So they didn't digitally age Hoover, they used make-up. It worked.

I also enjoyed The Three Musketeers for good sword fighting and blowing things up. I think it made good use of 3D, which can be difficult for live action movies.

There are a lot of movies I wanted to see or ones coming out soon that I want to see, but I've been super busy.

Whew, that got a bit long! Sorry about that.

Aww, your love for the laundry bag is adorable. :)

I really want to get a USB shaped like something fun, just for kicks.

I LOVE the e-ink. I got it instead of the newer model because I read that it's better for one's eyes. And I think it's very true.

I'm glad you'll be going to 2013! Yes, if there's time I'd be glad to do a little DC sightseeing with you or something; and either way I'll have plenty more time to hang out at the con that previously, I assume.

I want to see J.Edgar but didn't get to yet. I just saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy yesterday. I thought it was very good.
