Fashion Watch #2: Koolaburra Victoria Boots!
So as promised, I have finally gotten a minute to write about the boots I won from The Possessionista (and Koolaburra of course!) in the "31 Days of Giveaways" contest! (And FYI I found The Possessionista after The Fug Girls recommended the site in one of their link posts. So thanks, Heather and Jessica!)

First of all, here they are:

Boots: Koolaburra "Victoria" in black - $465
Pants: Express "Columnist" Pants in Gray - $60
Tank: The Limited seamless lace tank in red (no longer available)
Blouse: Express stretch blouse in white stripe - no longer available

Dress: Lapis Convertible Dress for Anthropologie in yellow and brown

[Note: This dress is pretty cool because thanks to ribbons and buttons underneath you can wear it a couple of different ways (it works kind of like bustling a skirt). I wore it to Terry Pratchett's London I Shall Wear Midnight book launch. You can see one of the other ways to wear it there.)

Anthropologie is so overpriced I never do more than look there (it's not that I won't buy something if it's worth it; it's just that their markup is ridiculous), but I got this at one of the department stores for, I think, $12 or $15. Rock.]

My thoughts:

Well first, I have to mention that this brand seems to be all the rage with celebrities these days. So it's pretty fun to have some boots that all the fancy folk are swanning about in. :)

And now, on to the boots:

These boots are excellent quality, and super comfortable (as well as very warm). They're made of soft leather, with removable/replaceable sheepskin insoles. The rubber soles have great grip (something SO MANY womens' shoes/boots lack, which I'll never understand. WE DON'T WANT TO FALL DOWN, SHOE DESIGNERS). The "mummy straps" (hee) can be used to tighten them around your legs and seem to hold pretty well.

The look is pretty unique, with the over-the-knee slouch and the crossover straps and all. I love the little rivets on the straps - they add to the look. One interesting thing is that these boots are, in general construction/utility (sheepskin, warmth, domed toe, etc.), a little bit like a fancy Ugg. And I really, really hate how Uggs look (they make everyone look like they have fat feet!). HOWEVER. Somehow Koolaburra has managed to make a stylish boot that functions the same as an Ugg without being ugly like one (no fat feet here!). So that is totally awesome! Thumbs up to their designers! So: overall, I really like the look.

Unfortunately I'm not sure they are quite fancy enough to serve as boots I can wear to work (silly *lawyer* clothes!) but they are definitely great for weekend out-and-about or going out or hanging out boots (and if your work is a little more casual you could definitely get away with them there, too).

I'm a little unsure what I think they look best with as yet (pants, dress, etc.) but I think they can function with both.

And now, what do you think?

Highly excellent! You look fierce, like you are thinking about challenging Michelle Obama to a duel. A boot-off, perhaps. Have I mentioned lately how much I love boots in general, and those particularly? Also, they do not look Ugg-like.

AHAHA. I have trouble not looking serious when taking self-portraits. So sometimes I actually end up looking angry. Heh.

Yeah, they seem to escape the Ugg look very well. I wonder why UGGS can't manage that. Heh.

I think they're fine with skirts/dresses, but not summer/spring ones :D They just look a bit wintery for that. These boots are HOT, though! (as are you.) Now I'm hearing Nancy Sinatra in my head.

Yeah, they are wintery/warm boots. I just went with that dress because it was the best I had to pair with these right now, length-wise.

Aww, thanks. And heeeeeee, Nancy Sinatra. :)

No way you knew why Nancy Sinatra was mentioned without Google. You weren't even born then, I don't think :)

What? Doesn't everyone know "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'"?

Well I did, anyway. :)

Leggings as pants still makes me cringe so I can't give a completely honest answer.

I think these would look really hot with a short pair of shorts.

Leggings instead of the dress would be good though.

Honestly, I think these need a very, very specific type of look. Normal outfits don't work with it. At all. But it can be worked with if you're willing to go outside the box.

Hmm, interesting. The pants I am wearing in the first pic are actual pants, not leggings... but I am curious to know what other looks/clothes you would pair with them. I like trying new looks!

I agree that shorts might work well. :)

Those are some serious boots, you wear them well. :)

IMHO, they look better as part of the first outfit. Can't really see them working with the dress.

'Course my warbrobe is almost all tees and jeans, so WTF do I know? :p
foresthouse From: foresthouse Date: March 13th, 2011 04:59 pm (UTC) (current file)
Heeee. Well you don't have to be a dress-wearer to have an opinion. I kinda like them with the dress, but that doesn't mean I'm right, either. :)

Interestingly, if you look at the Koolaburra Twitter page, their background is a woman in a way *fancier* dress wearing these boots in brown.
snapdragon76 From: snapdragon76 Date: March 14th, 2011 01:47 am (UTC) (current file)
You are looking FIERCE in those boots, I must say. You look like you could kick some ass and look stylin' while doing so.

They're kinda futuristic looking, I think.
foresthouse From: foresthouse Date: March 19th, 2011 03:19 am (UTC) (current file)
Aw, thanks. :)

Yeah, they kind of are. It's the straps, maybe.

I know, I WON BOOTS!! :D I couldn't believe it either.

Thanks for your fashion-y thoughts!

My inner dialogue let me tell you.

*scroll scroll scroll*

"That girl looks fami- HOLY SHIT THAT'S foresthouse (except I said your real name). Daaaaaamn!"

So yes, the boots are kicking. There is a part of me that would like them even more with like a 5 inch heel but that part of me isn't rationale and likes to dance on poles.

They do look better with pants tho.
foresthouse From: foresthouse Date: March 19th, 2011 03:21 am (UTC) (current file)
Heeee.

And, yeah, I like tall heels a lot too, but with these it wouldn't be practical. :)

You looks great! And those are great boots!

I think they'd look lovely and funky with a long, dark skirt (or something past knee-length). I don't think they go with the dress as pictured, but dark/wintry dresses, and short dresses with dark tights, would be nice. They'd also work as part of a kick-ass heroine costume if you added some firepower and big hair! :)

Congrats on the contest win! And have fun with the boots!
foresthouse From: foresthouse Date: March 19th, 2011 03:21 am (UTC) (current file)
Thanks!

Ah, a long dark skirt. I will have to try that. :)

they look fantastic! I abhor Uggs, but I think the straps and something about the line make them great. Or maybe you just pull the look off well.

I think they'd look cool in a zombie movie, where you're fighting zombies and looking fab.
foresthouse From: foresthouse Date: March 27th, 2011 05:19 am (UTC) (current file)
Yeah, these, I think, escape the Ugg issue while still being of the same general construction.

DUDE. ZOMBIE MOVIE BOOTS. Awesome. :)
