So, yeah, remember when I mentioned that Secret Craft Project vwlphb has been working on this past week? Well, that Secret Project came about because when we went to see Coraline, I was telling her about my plans to make the Deadpool Doll, and she got to wondering if, perhaps, some version of Deadpool could be crocheted (since she is skilled in such arts). So for the last week, there has been much consultation as well as a flurry of photos and image links back and forth regarding such age-old questions as what the back of Deadpool’s harness *really* looks like; and finally, today when we got together for lunch and movies, I got to hold in my excited little hands the finished product! To take home and keep for my very own! And take pictures of and post about on LiveJournal! So now, I give you, the one, the only...Dollpool!
Just in case some of you don't know who Deadpool is (although how could you not if you read my journal at all) he's my favorite Marvel character. Here's a picture of him. And now, on to Dollpool!
First, courtesy of vwlphb, we have The Making of Dollpool:
She started by making the head and body:
And then moved on to arms and legs and his black patches:
And then to the all-important Deadpool-brand accessories:
And finally, he was finished (note the amazing tiny pouches and harness and belt buckle! Also his tiny little mask seams! vwlphb is amazing!):
Isn't he awesome??
vwlphb gave Dollpool to me when I got to Oyamel for lunch (and I gave her some homemade cookies, which weren’t nearly as cool). He was so adorable I wanted to hold onto him, but of course fear of getting guacamole on him caused me to put him back in the gift bag until later. Once we got to the E Street Cinema for the Oscar-nominated animated short films, I judged it safe for Dollpool to come out and watch the movies with us. As both vwlphb and Taskmaster are wont to observe, Dollpool is unpredictable. Thus, we saw him laughing at Oktapodi, dancing along with Gopher Broke (well, the music *was* catchy!), and, yes, shedding one tiny little tear during Le Maison en Petits Cubes (hey, he’s totally in touch with his feminine side). He thought the shorts were very enjoyable, although he wondered if he might have to cut a bitch when a power surge caused us to miss a little part of Le Maison en Petits Cubes. Fortunately they gave us refunds, and Dollpool is nothing if not a fan of free stuff, so he didn’t make a fuss.
Once I got him home, Dollpool had some adventures making sense of his new surroundings:
Superhero Squad Deadpool and Tiny Cheesecake Deadpool are suspicious of the invader. Dollpool offers a friendly greeting to his smaller counterparts, who are, after all, armed with sharp pointy things, of which he currently has none (although those pouches are full of mystery, and, possibly, knives. One never knows). A yarn doll can’t be too careful.
The mini Deadpools decide Dollpool is One of Them, and therefore, does not need to be stabbed.
Dollpool is fond of Tiny Cheesecake Deadpool, probably because Tiny Cheesecake Deadpool comes with guns and GRENADES. Which Dollpool will definitely want to borrow at some point.
Dollpool explores the floor, where he is distressed to meet The White Spy, a mysterious figure who is brimming with Nefarious Intentions. Also: bombs. (Where are those grenades when you need them?)
However, he is much enamored of the beautiful Ms. Harley Quinn, who he thinks has excellent fashion sense. (Is it me, or do I own only red, white, and black dolls? Um.)
Sadly, she is not as impressed with him.
Dollpool is saddened by Ms. Quinn’s haughty demeanor.
But he’ll get by with a little help from his friends.
To cheer him up, they send over Mr. Curiosity Mood Beam.
This cheers Dollpool, who celebrates by getting in the way of a photo of Posterized Deadpool. If Dollpool had fingers, he’d be doing bunny ears right about here:
Now contented, Dollpool settles happily into his new home:
(pls. note if you see crappy romantic comedies on my shelf, the sole reason I own most of them is for either Johnny Depp or RDJr. They do not necessarily reflect my general taste in movies...skyblade. Just my taste in actors.)
(Also, speaking of Deadpool, I should really include a shot of the new poster I got last time I was at the comic book store, which is badass.)
And I should mention that my awesome affiliate, The Deadpool Bugle, one-stop shop for all the newest Deadpool news, has just been linked by MTV and Rob Liefeld. Coolness!
Also also, vwlphb gave me two great Coraline buttons, too.
In summary, Dollpool is awesome, and so is vwlphb. SQUEE!
