Awwwwwww. <3

Tell me about chinchillas. What are their negatives?

I think it was you who posted a video a while back of your chinchilla on the bathroom sink and it was pooping like crazy, is that typical? Because that made me not want one.

I might be getting a bunny in the spring, but I might change my mind and get a chinchilla instead. Which do you think is easier to care for? Which poops less?

Well, the negatives are, yes, they poop a lot (most small rodents do) and they're occasionally antisocial (i.e. they aren't going to be like a dog and cuddle up to you). Also they need pretty big cages (mine's 3 feet tall) and sometimes they shed some fur, which can tend to float around and get on stuff because it's so fluffy and light. And sometimes they will try to chew on your wooden doors or moldings or things you don't want them to chew (typical of pretty much all rodents anyway).

On the other hand, they are extremely cute and soft to hold, and if you handle them enough, they will be fine with you holding them and petting them and stuff. They'll also climb all over you and sit on your shoulder and things. :) Rogue used to go to sleep in my hands sometimes, although she doesn't do it as much anymore. They're really fun to watch run around, and they can be trained to do at least a couple of tricks (I'm sure they can do more - mine only does the 2 I trained her for). They can recognize their names. Also, they are very clean and don't smell as long as you clean the cage about every week or so. Also, in regards to the pooping, if you take them out regularly at the same time every day, they generally won't go much or at all while out of the cage - it's when their routine is disrupted that they go outside of the cage.

I've never had a rabbit, but I know they will also chew on things and stuff like that. Don't know how they are with going to the bathroom, although I've heard you can train both rabbits and chinchillas to use a litter box... Rabbits might be a little easier to train for that. But chinchillas are pretty easy to care for, all told, so I'm not sure. :)

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of rodents*, but Rogue sure is a cutie.

*I attribute this to growing up in a region that sees a few cases of bubonic plague a year. Avoiding rodents and droppings was pretty well drilled into me.

Bubonic plague? EEEE.

But yes, Rogue is cute anyway. It's because she's not really a rodent. She's really a cartoon character. :)
