it doesn't have one of my favorite, which is relevant to me at least a few times a week:

"The universe contains any amount of horrible ways to be woken up, such as the noise of the mob breaking down the front door, the scream of fire engines, or the realisation that today is the Monday which on Friday night was a comfortably long way off. A dog's wet noise is not strictly speaking the worst of the bunch, but it has its own peculiar dreadfulness which connoisseurs of the ghastly and dog owners everywhere have come to know and dread. It's like having a small piece of defrosting liver pressed lovingly against you."

HEEHEEHEE. That *is* a good one.

Did I...did I know you were a Pratchett fan? I can't remember if we talked about it before. (Sorry, is late and am tired.)

I think we talked about Pratchett a few months ago (months? already?) when we first started commenting on each others blogs.

I'm a huge fan. I recently re-read the entire discworld series before Making Money came out, and I marked all of my favorite quotes and passages. That list you link to doesn't even begin to cover the amazing quotes from his books.

I'm planning on picking up Nation during my lunch break at work today.

Yeah, I think you're right (I know, right? It *has* been awhile, now).

Hooray for Discworld fandom! I've read the whole series multiple times and am planning to read through them again in order soon.

Yeah, I picked up Nation a couple of days ago, but haven't gotten to start reading yet.

So you're totally going to come to our Discworld convention in AZ next September, right? Right?? :)

(BTW, there are some great Pratchett links on the links page of our site - http://www.nadwcon.org - including the L-Space web and the Discworld Wiki. :) There's a searchable quote database, Electric Escape.)

I'm tempted to go to the convention; the last few times Pratchett has come to Boston I haven't been able to go, and I would love to meet him. The only issue is that I would probably have to go solo since no one else I know is even close to being into his books enough to consider going. We'll see.

I'll actually probably go through the series again fairly soon. I've really been in the mood for a book with Sam Vimes, so at the least I'll have to go through all the books about the Watch.

YOU SHOULD GO. :) I mean, I'll be there, so at least you'll know someone, although of course I'll probably be running around like a chicken with my head cut off some of the time. *g* But from what I've seen of Pratchett fans thus far, there isn't a one that's not friendly and interested in making new friends. Also I know several people in the fandom and like to introduce people to other people. Heh.

If part of the "going by yourself" concern is cost, you can try to find someone else who's going solo to split a room with. I did that at the UK con, actually, and met a very nice girl who is probably going to come to our con now, too. The cheapest of the rooms come with 2 double beds, so it's not like you'd have to share a bed with anyone. :) We have a message board on the site and I think there might already be a thread for roomshares.

I think it's going to be a really fun time, and also maybe the best opportunity to see Terry at a con, what with him really wanting to concentrate on his writing and also having to juggle the Alzheimer's publicity now. He may not come to the US for another con soon. And cons are really the most fun way to meet him, because he sometimes actually has time to sit and chat with folks.

Vimes is my favorite character. *g*

(And, ok, this has just occurred to me, but since it seems like you are quite up on the details of the books...well, we could always use good programming suggestions and things for the con.)

Oh, p.s. Sorry, that was long. :)

Also, if you want to get news of the con when we send it out every now and then, I can add you to the emailing list.
