Movies, movies, and more movies - Walking on the Edge
I don't really have a plan...
Movies, movies, and more movies
I have to admit, as excited as I was for Prince Caspian, the release date actually snuck up on me a bit, so that I only realized it was coming out a few days ago due to cleolinda posting about seeing it. Therefore, somewhat for my own benefit, and in case anyone else has this same problem (and wants to see the same movies I do), a chronological list of several recent/upcoming movies I want to see (or will want to consider seeing):

Starting with those I meant to see recently, and missed

I really need to rent:

There Will Be Blood,
No Country for Old Men, and
Run Fatboy Run

If you haven't seen them yet, in theaters now are

Iron Man and
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Both are worth a watch. Go see!

And now, for movies I want to keep track of:

(Plot summaries from IMDB.)

The Promotion
Release Date: (limited) - it looks like this one may already be out? Or I missed it? It's not clear. But I want to see it.
Plot Summary: Two assistant managers of a corporate grocery store vie for a coveted promotion.

--> It's supposed to be a dark comedy. Squee, dark comedy!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Release Date: May 22, 2008
Plot Summary: Famed archaeologist/adventurer Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones is called back into action when he becomes entangled in a Soviet plot to uncover the secret behind mysterious artifacts known as the Crystal Skulls.

--> I'd like to note that one of the "plot keywords" for this movie is Hat. HEE. Also, somewhat unrelated but interesting, I was reading the review for another recent movie, The Forbidden Kingdom, and the reviewers are right. Michael Angarano really does look like he could be Shia LaBeouf's brother.

Savage Grace
Release Date: May 28, 2008 (limited)
Plot Summary: The true story of the beautiful and charismatic Barbara Daly, who married above her class to Brooks Baekeland, heir to the Bakelite plastics fortune. Their only child is a failure in his father's eyes, and as he matures and becomes increasingly close to his lonely mother, the seeds for tragedy are sown.

--> It sounds fairly fascinating and psychological. And twisted.

The Incredible Hulk
Release Date: June 13, 2008
Plot Summary: Physicist Bruce Banner takes flight in order to understand -- and hopefully cure -- the condition that turns him into a monster.

--> It's another Marvel movie. AND it's Edward Norton. ♥ Must see!

Get Smart
Release Date: June 20, 2008
Plot Summary: Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 for CONTROL, battles the forces of KAOS with the more-competent Agent 99 at his side.

--> I can see this being potentially bad, but, you know what? I LOVED the original Get Smart series, so I'm going to go see it no matter what. Anyway, I like Anne Hathaway and Steve Carrell is fun.

The Dark Knight
Release Date: July 18, 2008
Plot Summary: Batman and James Gordon join forces with Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker's crimes grow more and more deadly.

--> SQUEEEEEEEE. I cannot WAIT for this movie. CHRISTIAN BALE AS BATMAN. Not to mention Harvey Dent appears to be making his debut, although whether he'll be a villain in this one is unclear. And, of course...there's Heath Ledger. (*sniff*) I'll bet anyone big money that he gave an amazing performance.
P.S. Also, Gary Oldman as Gordon = LOVE. And Maggie Gyllenhaal is great.

Mamma Mia!
Release Date: July 18, 2008
Plot Summary: The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular '70s group ABBA.

--> Well, ok, I may wait for this one on DVD. But my friend Steve so loves the musical that I might have to watch it. Hrm.

X-Files: I Want to Believe
Release Date: July 25, 2008
Plot Summary: None on IMDB.

--> I was never really a *huge* X-Files fan (I mean, I liked it, but I didn't watch regularly) but this is supposed to be able to stand up on its own, rather than tying in too closely with the past storylines. So I think it could be good to see.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2
Release Date: August 8, 2008
Plot Summary: Follows the last story: Now three years later, these lifelong friends embark on separate paths for their first year of college and the summer beyond, but remain in touch by sharing their experiences with each other as they always have-with honesty and humor.

--> OK, I'm kind of just kidding about seeing this one. But I had to include it in my list so I could tease my Dave, who has a mega-crush on Amber Tamblyn. Look, honey! Amber on the big screen! OOOOH. (hee.)

Tropic Thunder
Release Date: August 15, 2008
Plot Summary: Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying.

--> I'm not really a huge Ben Stiller fan (Zoolander, anyone?) but this premise sounds so crazy that it just might be amusing. Also, I kind of have to see the whole "Robert Downey Jr. in 'blackface'" thing. It just sounds so bizarre and potentially offensive. My curiosity is to blame for including this on the list.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Release Date: August 15, 2008
Plot Summary: ?

--> It's animated, and it fits in a gap between 2 of the Star Wars movies. Sounds good to me!

The Brothers Bloom
Release Date: October 24, 2008
Plot Summary: The Brothers Bloom are the best con men in the world, swindling millionaires with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. Now they've decided to take on one last job - showing a beautiful and eccentric heiress the time of her life with a romantic adventure that takes them around the world.

--> It sounds a bit reminiscent of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, but then, I've only got two lines to go on. It could be fun!

Release Date: November 7, 2008
Plot Summary: A mother's prayer for her kidnapped son to return home is answered, though it doesn't take long for her to suspect the boy who comes back is not hers.

--> MOAR psychological drama! Angelina Jolie ends up in an insane asylum, there might be conspiracies...I'm curious!

Release Date: November 14, 2008
Plot Summary: Set in northern Australia before World War II, an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch reluctantly pacts with a stock-man in order to protect her new property from a takeover plot. As the pair drive 2,000 head of cattle over unforgiving landscape, they experience the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by Japanese forces firsthand.

--> Yes, I will see this movie JUST to see Hugh Jackman act with his native accent. What? Also, the plot sounds rather interesting.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Release Date: November 21, 2008
Plot Summary: As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously "This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince" and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort's dark past.

--> Squeeeee, it's the next HP. Does anyone really wonder why I'm going to go see it?

The Soloist
Release Date: November 21, 2008
Plot Summary: A schizophrenic, homeless musician from Skid Row, Los Angeles dreams of playing at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

--> There's actually a bit more to the plot than that. A journalist writing about the musician, more story stuff. I dunno, I think it could be interesting.

Punisher: War Zone
Release Date: December 5, 2008
Plot Summary: After hunting down and killing hundreds of violent criminals, Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, faces his most deadly foe yet: Jigsaw.

--> I'm thinking about this one. I haven't actually seen the first one, so I'd have to go rent it first, but it's a Marvel movie and I love Marvel movies. I do wonder about them releasing it around the holidays, though. Seems an odd choice. On a related note, I'm sure he's not in it, but they should really include Deadpool in a Punisher movie. :) The Deadpool/Punisher issue of the Deadpool run is one of the highest-priced single issues out there at the moment, I think. Not to mention I'm going to lobby for Deadpool in any movie where it's possible. Heh.

The International
Release Date: February 20, 2009
Plot Summary: An Interpol agent (Owen) attempts to expose a high-profile financial institution's role in an international arms dealing ring.

--> Espionage and Clive Owen, who would have made a great Bond. Yay!

Release Date: March 6, 2009
Plot Summary: When an ex-superhero is murdered, a vigilante named Rorshach begins an investigation into the murder, which begins to lead to a much more terrifying conclusion.

--> I doubt I need to explain my excitement over this one, but SQUEE! I cannot waaaait for it, particularly since they seem to be sticking so close to the comic.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Release Date: May 1, 2009
Plot Summary: Wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against Victor Creed (who will later become Sabertooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant Weapon X program.

--> OMGOMGOMGSQUEE. I don't know why anyone would need my reasons for wanting to see this, but they are: 1) Wolverine; 2) Hugh Jackman; 3) Hugh Jackman AS Wolverine, which is OMGAWESOME; and 4) DEADPOOL IS IN THIS MOVIE. Played by Ryan Reynolds. YAAAAAY. Can't. Wait.

X-Men Origins: Magneto
Release Date: 2009
Plot Summary: A look at the early life of Eric Lensherr and his friendship with Charles Xavier, and how the one-time allies became mortal enemies.

--> OK, not quite as exciting as the Wolverine movie, but still. Magneto and Prof X go head-to-head! I'm sure there will be lots of awesomeness and also mutant cameos. Whee!

And...that's all for now.

Hee, back at Oscar time, my friend and I could not keep There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men straight. Neither one of us had any desire to see them either, there's just nothing in the advertising that entices us. Of the two, however, I'm more inclined to see No Country for Old Men because it's Coen Bros, and it doesn't have that milkshake joke, which makes me want to punch people in the face when they refer to it.

I've got many of the same movies on my watchlist. Definitely Indiana Jones and The Dark Knight (squeeeeeee!). I think Get Smart and Mamma Mia both look worth the movie ticket prices. I'll watch X-Files out of loyalty to the show, even though I think it might suck. I'd also add Shyamalan's The Happening because I like him. And Wall-E! How could you forget the new Pixar movie? Also, if you were a fan of Freaks and Geeks, I'd recommend the Judd Apatow stoner comedy Pineapple Express because it has Seth Rogen and James Franco in it (comes out in August, I think). If you're not a fan of Freaks and Geeks, I recommend you rent the DVDs and then once you are a fan, see above :-)

No Country For Old Men and There Will be Blood are gargantuan films, two of the best in recent years. They are MUSTS.

I know, the titles are what make it confusing, and also I think the cinematographic (is that a word? I think it is...) style. (I don't actually know the milkshake joke yet. Don't tell!)

I'm not a huge Scary Things In The Woods and Water and Villages and Stuff person, so I've never really seen any Shyamalan. (Although, random trivia, I know some guys who were in The Village - a local band here called Scythian.) I like Pixar a lot, but...I dunno, Wall-e kinda didn't excite me, from the one trailer I saw. Also, I considered adding Pineapple Express to the list, but wasn't sure if it looked good or dumb. Perhaps I'll add it since you recommend.

We'll totally be seeing Indiana Jones, Get Smart, and The Dark Knight. I'll add in Wanted (James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, and some gun action), Hellboy II: The Golden Army (although I have no background in the comic, the first movie was really enjoyable!), RocknRolla (please oh please let this Guy Ritchie movie finally be good again), Quantum of Solace (did you seriously leave out the James Bond movie?!), and Swing Vote (it looks silly, but I hope it'll spread the message about VOTING!).

Okay, I'm totally with you on X-Men Origins: Wolverine because of Wolverine, Hugh Jackman, and Hugh Jackman AS Wolverine. The last thing I remember hearing about the movie was that Liev Schreiber had been cast as Sabretooth, which is kinda cool. But I love me some wise-cracking Ryan Reynolds, and he's perfect for the role of Deadpool!

(I'm also going to take this moment to hyperventilate OMGOMGOMGOMG about the inclusion of GAMBIT, my favorite X-Man! Finally, SQUEEEEEE!)

As a side note, do either of you have a video game console? I really enjoyed Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, where you get to control a team of four Marvel characters (or, if you're playing together, you can each control a team of two), and Deadpool is one of the choices! Thought you might like it, if you had the video game hardware.

Ooh, Wanted does look good. I guess I missed it as I was scrolling through.

So you liked the first Hellboy? I haven't seen it but if it was good maybe I'll rent it and then go see #2.

...I did actually leave out a Bond movie, but it's not because I don't like Bond. It's because of my obsessive desire not to see something out of order. I have a Bond backlog of movies I haven't seen yet, so...I dunno, if I haven't seen the previous ones, it makes me want to see them first, and I don't know when I'll have time. Maybe it doesn't matter and the movie will still make sense and be awesome anyway? I dunno.

I know about MUA, Dave has a GameCube but they don't have a version for that. I don't have a console but I'd seriously consider getting one so I could play Deadpool. :)
